Bayfront: Positive Development for Duluth
Most everyone seems pleased with the Bayfront Festival Park. What's to
come with the rest of the Bayfront? The consultant, BRW, has recently
unveiled its proposed plans, and many in the community think we can do
better. The BRW plans, for example, show far more prime space
dedicated to parking than even the Mayor's Task Force had called
for. It omits the Conservatory, shifts the Visitor Center off the
beaten path so that its function is nearly lost, and includes a
restaurant that no one had planned for. What's been suggested as an
improvement on this plan? That the Visitor Center, Conservatory, and a
restaurant be grouped together in the prime area now lost to the
planned parking lot, allowing these three components to energize and
support each other (and to support the nearby Aquarium as
well). Grouping these structures would cut down on parking
requirements and also provide a logical linking spot for a future
skywalk to the location. Want to get involved? Contact Kent Worley at
